I interviewed Miss Ciavattoni, who is a third grade teacher because she is an awesome teacher. I learned a lot about her, like her favorite president.

Stop Global Warming Now!
by Angelina M., Staff Writer
Help save the earth! Have you ever seen the sea rise? Well, you may think the sea could never rise but that’s happening right under your nose! Global warming has been happening for almost 250 years. We didn’t even know it was happening for many years. As early as 1930, reporters shared what was happening to the earth. Then in 1970, there was an awakening—the very first Earth Day.
Global warming is when the earth warms up and the North Pole melts along with Antarctica. Someday the earth could flood with water. You can be a part of saving the earth. One thing that you can do is turn off your house lights before you go out. Another thing you could do is walk to school or ride a bike instead of using your car. You could also stop playing video games (kids)! Finally, watch less television and don’t use too much water.
Humans have been polluting the air with smoke from cars and factories. This pollution causes global warming, which can affect animals such as the polar bear. Interesting fact: Did you know, in the arctic, the ice and glaciers are melting and breaking apart! This will increase the water level and this is not good for Polar bears, as it ruins their habitat. They will have to swim farther for food and could have a chance of drowning.
So start saving the earth. Save the animals and save yourself. Stop global warming now! Stay tuned for more about other world cases.

It is Fall
by Alex D., Staff Writer
In summer there are green leaves. But something strange is happening to those leaves right now. The leaves are changing to orange, yellow and red. Why does this happen? Well, the leaves have a substance called chlorophyll which is a green pigment. Pigment means a material that changes the color of something. When the temperature changes, and it gets colder, the chlorophyll breaks down and fades away. Then you can see the orange, red, or, yellow that was there all along!
Autumn is so much fun! It is magnificent! Leaves are changing color and eventually fall to the ground. Then you have to rake them up and the trees look bare until spring. Autumn is a beautiful season!

Fighting Cancer
by Megan P., Staff Writer
For many years now people have been fighting cancer, and trying to find the cure. Cancer is a very common disease. The month of September is childhood cancer month. Also, October is breast cancer month. Many football players and cheer teams have been wearing gold and pink to show their support for cancer. They wear gold in September for childhood cancer and pink in October for breast cancer.
Kids in our school and lots of other schools have students who have survived cancer. Although cancer is a harmful disease, it can be deadly, but not always. Many people survive this disease. A cure for cancer is very important. Sadly , we still haven’t found one. We are trying very hard to find one. It is very important to find a cure and find one fast.
Here, at Appleby, we are supporting cancer in many different ways. Last year, the 4th grade ESP class created and sold bookmarks to raise money for cancer research. Also, the 5th grade ESP class sold pencils to raise money for breast cancer research.
Cancer is a very serious disease that needs your help to cure it. Get off your couch and help raise money to find a cure for cancer!

Halloween and Costumes by Allison Z., Staff Writer
BOOOOOOO! Halloween is a very interesting holiday. Halloween came from the 18th century practice of ‘imitating malignant spirits’’. This led children to prank citizens of England in the 20th century. Today children dress up in costumes too. Some popular costumes are black cats, zombies, super heroes, bats, dolls, or skeletons. Halloween has lots of interesting history.
